Brandy, Shawn, and their two children, Joseph (“JoJo”) and Mary Sue, are preparing to move into their very own Habitat home in Doswell—a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house with an affordable mortgage. For this family, homeownership is not just a dream come true, but a fresh start built on faith, hard work, and resilience.

Brandy, a lifelong resident of Hanover County, has worked in the medical field as a receptionist and billing specialist while raising her children and learning to build financial stability. Shawn has been a constant source of support as they work together to create a safe and loving home for her two kids. Their journey with Habitat began in 2024 and it opened the door to an incredible opportunity.

Both JoJo and Mary Sue have overcome significant challenges in their lives. JoJo, who has faced many medical and physical obstacles, has worked hard to master those difficulties and is now actively involved in ROTC at his high school. Mary Sue, who has persevered through her own trauma, is preparing to start her freshman year at Randolph-Macon College. Brandy and Shawn are incredibly proud of their strength and determination.

For Brandy and Shawn, homeownership means more than a roof over their heads—it’s about stability, pride, and hope for the future.

“It means everything. It’s something we can call our own, that we helped build with our own hands, alongside friends and family. It’s something we can be proud of.” Brandy shared.

Their new home is more than a structure—it’s the foundation for a stronger, brighter future.
