We completed our first solar project on May 20, 2022 on one of our Habitat homes built in 2011. This project was fully funded by GiveSolar, a nonprofit social impact organization that assists other nonprofits and low-income homeowners to gain access to solar energy. They are partnering with Habitat affiliates across Virginia for first-time solar projects.
The 14 solar panels that we installed should save the homeowner $60-70 a month on their electric bill, depending on their electric usage. With electricity rates expected to climb up to 20% in the next year, this homeowner should experience significant savings.
We were excited about this first project and hope to build more community support and funding for future solar projects.
