Last month, staff attended the Partnership for Housing Affordability’s 2025 State of Housing conference. At the conference, eye-opening data reinforced the urgent need for more affordable housing locally. To afford the median home price in the region—now $410,000—a buyer must earn $123,000 annually. Five years ago, the median home price was $292,000, requiring an annual income of $62,000. That’s a 98% increase in the income needed to buy the median-priced home. This new income threshold puts homeownership out of reach for many essential workers, including police officers, teachers, and childcare workers.
